Newcastle is a city, which is located in North East England and it lies around 166 kilometres south of Edinburgh and approximately 445 kilometres north of London and about 13.7 kilometres from the North Sea. In the North East, Newcastle is the most crowded city, and it is eight most crowded urban area in the United Kingdom. The city became part of the county of Northumberland until 1400. Royal Grammar School, was founded in 1525 and it provides education between the age group of 7 to 18 years old. It has around 1,247 students.
In 2014, Newcastle High School for Girls was established, and it is an independent school, which provides education between the age group of 3 to 18 years old. The school has around 970 students. The Emmanuel College was founded in 1990, which is located in Consett Road, Lobley Hill. It has around 1,310 students, and it provides education between the age group of 11 to 18 years old. The Newcastle College provides further education to the students, and it had around 45,000 students in 2013 to 2014.
The city also served by two main universities. Newcastle University had around 24,980 students, in 2016 to 2017. It is a public research university. In the United Kingdom, the university has EU research portfolios. In 2016, Northumbria University was founded and in 2016 to 2017, the university had around 26,675 students.
The Trinity Mirror's Evening Chronicle, the Sunday Sun, the Metro freesheet and the Journal are local newspapers which are printed in Newcastle. The Independent Local Radio is a commercial radio station, in the United Kingdom.
The city has main three cathedrals including the Roman Catholic, the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral and the St. Mary's Anglican St. Nicholas. There is one other important church, i.e. the Church of St Thomas the Martyr. In the United Kingdom, the Jesmond Parish Church is the largest evangelical Anglican Church.
